ATMA North conducts training on Oyster Mushroom Cultivation

GANGTOK, 12 May: With the view to strengthen rural economy by empowering women, ATMA North Sikkim (FS & AD Deptt) conducted training followed by demonstration programme on “Scientific cultivation of Oyster Mushroom” to the members of Self Help Groups of Lingdong, Upper Dzongu on 09-10 May, 2014.
A press release informs that the Resource Person, Deputy Project Director, TN Bhutia informed the gathering on the need to inculcate the practice of engaging oneself in agricultural activities apart from daily household chores to become independent and improve the family’s overall income. Considering the availability of raw materials and the potential of the trainees, Mr. Bhutia encouraged them to take up cultivation of Oyster Mushrooms which has tremendous potential in the local markets and is also easy to grow.
During the two days, the trainees were informed in detail about the basic requirements for successful Oyster mushroom cultivation followed by live demonstration of scientific cultivation practices. At the end of the programme, every trainee was given 2 packets of spawn, hand sprayer and poly-propylene bags free of cost as an incentive to initiate the practice of mushroom cultivation at the farmer’s level, the release mentions. The entire programme was co-ordinated by BTM, Passingdang, Kursongmit Lepcha.
