Black Cat Division undertakes ecological campaign

GANGTOK, 20 May: Black Cat Division has declared 2014 as Ecological Conservation Year and to commemorate the same, an ecological campaign was launched in January this year with the singular aim of promoting ecological conservation awareness through grass root level environmental action programmes.
A press release informs that Black Cat Division has been working towards this end for the last six months. A 15 KVA Hydro Electronic Power Station and 10 KVA Solar power Station along with a Waste Recycling Plant was established at Gnathang. To promote awareness on ill effects of use of non-biodegradable substances, Green Hanumaan Jayanti was celebrated on 15 April at Hanuman Tok.
A Cleanliness Drive was undertaken at Gnathang, Penangla and Bojoghari on 10 May to spread awareness among tourists while a Herbal Garden was established at Hanuman Tok on 15 May.  
The Eco Awareness programmes planned in near future are Ecological Seminar in first week of Jun 14, distilling and cleaning of lakes, afforestation and cycling-cum-trekking expedition to Kanchenjunga base to spread ecological awareness, the release mentions.
