Counterfeit peddling couple nabbed

MANGAN, 23 May: A couple has been arrested for using counterfeit currency notes at Lower Kambal in East Sikkim today. Singtam Police picked up Sancha Maya Rai [a resident of Lingee, South Sikkim] and her husband, Bir Kumar Rai [a driver] at around 3 pm today.
It is learnt that the accused made purchases with fake notes of Rs 500 denomination this afternoon at several shops in Ralap, Tumin, Raley and Samdong. She was nabbed by police after staff at the Tumin petrol pump grew suspicious when she approached them asking for change of Rs 500. Soon after she left the petrol pump, the staff and local public followed her and caught her at a bakery at Lower Kambal near Jurassic Park where she was again trying to make purchases with a five hundred rupee note. They seized the keys of the Maruti Alto she was travelling in and informed the police.

Police recovered counterfeit notes worth Rs. 21,000 from her. Along with her, police also arrested her husband who was driving the vehicle and at present both are under police custody.
