Governor presents Governor’s Unit Citation to 3 Sikkim NCC Bn

GANGTOK, 09 May: Cadets of 3 Sikkim Bn. NCC led by Col. D.  Mohapatra, Commanding Officer, were conferred with Letter of Appreciation and Governor’s Unit Citation by the Governor of Sikkim, Shriniwas Patil at a special function held at Ashirvad Bhavan today. 30 NCC Cadets and 4 civilian employees of the battalion, besides the officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, were present on the occasion.
As per a press release from Raj Bhavan, the programme started with the salute and Guard of Honour given to the Governor by the Commanding Officer and 8 NCC Cadets of the battalion at the deck of Ashirvad Bhawan. Thereafter, the Governor was escorted to the Ashirvad Hall where the Girl Cadets offered bouquets to the Governor and the First Lady. The Governor and the First Lady extended a warm greeting  to the Commanding Officer and the cadets present on the occasion.
The Governor was presented a citation by the Commanding Officer on behalf of 3 Sikkim Bn.NCC. The Governor presented the Governor’s Unit Citation and Letter of Appreciation to the Commanding Officer and the battalion on their activities and achievement. Twenty selected cadets were also presented with medals by the Governor for their professional excellence and devotion to duty.
It may be mentioned that the battalion has been undertaking various social and community service activities such as Tree Plantations, AIDS Awareness Campaign, Campaign against Drug Abuse, Traffic Management, Medical & First Aid Camps and Hygiene and Sanitation Camps over the last three years. Two Girl Cadets took part in the Republic Day Parade at Delhi in 2013 and more importantly, Cadet Narmaya Sharma achieved the distinction to be the first Girl Cadet from Sikkim to participate in the Parade at Rajpath. Similarly, Cadet Anita Kumari got the distinction to be the first Girl Cadet of Sikkim to take part in the Guard of Honour given to the Prime Minister of India at his rally in Delhi.
Addressing the cadets, the Governor recorded his appreciation of the activities being undertaken by them under the guidance of Col. D Mohapatra and congratulated them on their achievements. Governor further said that by undertaking such activities they have added a whole new dimension with value and purpose to the NCC and has inspired more youths and students to join the NCC in Sikkim.
He recounted his memories as an ACC Cadet during his school days and as Senior Under Officer in 1st Maharashtra Armoured Squadron, Pune when he was in college.
Congratulating the cadets on their achievements the Governor urged the cadets to keep involving themselves in community based service activities with greater zeal, energy, purpose and passion for the welfare of the state and the country in the days to come. He particularly urged the young cadets to join the armed forces and serve the country with greater pride and dedication.
The function also witnessed a short cultural programme presented by the cadets in honour of the Governor and the First Lady. The formal programme concluded by vote of thanks proposed by the Commanding Office Col. D. Mohapatra wherein he expressed gratitude to the Governor for his encouragement and blessing to the young cadets.
