HC directs BSNL WB & Sikkim circle chief to attend next hearing on petition filed by North Sikkim public

GANGTOK, 06 May: The High Court of Sikkim has directed the BSNL chief of West Bengal & Sikkim circle to be present in court on the next hearing of a petition by the people of North Sikkim aggrieved with the poor connectivity services being provided by BSNL there.
During the last hearing on 29 April, the division bench comprising Chief Justice NK Jain and Justice SP Wangdi directed the central government counsel, Karma Thinlay to inform the Chief General Manager, West Bengal Telecom to remain present in person on the next date of hearing of the petition.
The next hearing is scheduled for 26 May.
It may be noted that the General Manager, BSNL, Arvind Bajaj was present on 29 April, the day when the direction to the Chief General Manager to be present was issued.
Earlier, the High Court had directed the counsel appearing on behalf of BSNL to furnish details of officers or any other authority who are dealing with the state of Sikkim in New Delhi.
The petition was filed by the Pipon and public of Lachen Dzumsa a couple of years ago alleging lack of amenities and poor services particularly on the part of the service provider BSNL.

The court also appointed a new amicus curiae, advocate Manish Kumar Jain on behalf of the petitioners to aid the court.
