Sikkim Commission for Protection of Child Rights condemns incident, demands stringent action

GANGTOK, 09 May: Meanwhile, the Sikkim Commission for Protection of Child Rights has condemned the incident and said that since the accused has been booked for similar offence earlier as well, the judiciary should take stringent action against him.
The Commission has also urged members of the civil society to be alert and take initiative in reporting such incidents in the state. The Commission has urged police personnel to immediately report such cases under the new law Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and immediately take victims for medical examination without delay with the assistance of social workers under the Child Rights Commission.
The Commission will provide all assistance to the police in fast tracking such cases. Now even the High Court of Sikkim has designated Children Courts in the state and the Commission hopes that justice is delivered at the earliest in these cases. The Commission requests the general public to take the assistance of the Commission in reporting cases of child abuse directly at 03592-208217 and 8016881868.
