SSP approaches Raj Bhavan with complaint on Lall Bazaar incident

GANGTOK, 26 May: Sikkim Sangram Parishad [SSP] submitted a memorandum to the Governor’s office today urging his intervention into the incident that occurred at Lall Bazaar on Sunday.
On Sunday morning, inspection by Gangtok Municipal Corporation [GMC] officials at Lall Bazaar caused the hawkers to call a bandh after the officials allegedly misbehaved with them. The bandh spread to the main town area as well and even shops at MG Marg shut down in solidarity.
SSP has accused Sikkim Democratic Front supporters, Deputy Mayor Shakti Singh and councilor Udai Lama of Gangtok Municipal Corporation of venting their anger against hawkers of Lall Bazaar for supposedly voting against SDF in the recently concluded elections.
In the memorandum, the party has reiterated its demand for the immediate arrest of all SDF supporters named in the FIR lodged at Sadar Police Station.

“SSP demands justice and your intervention to assuage the fears of the victimized people. We feel this is an oppression of the hawkers and business community of Sikkim”, the memorandum states.
