Governor meets GOC 33 Trishakti Corps

GANGTOK, 04 June: GOC, 33 Trishakti Corps, Lt. Gen. Govind Singh Chandel called on the Governor of Sikkim, Shriniwas Patil today at Raj Bhavan. He was accompanied by GOC Black Cat Division, Maj. Gen. YVK Mohan on the occasion.
A press release from Raj Bhavan informs that Lt. Gen. Govind Singh Chandel is on a visit to the forward areas to boost the morale of the troops deployed after assuming charge as GOC, 33 Trishakti Corps in May 2014. He replaced Lt. Gen. KJ Singh, AVSM/Bar.
During interaction, the Governor appreciated the efforts of the Black Cat Division personnel posted along the Nathu-la border in relief and rescue as and when the tourists and general visitors travelling along the Gangtok-Nathula route are found stranded due to landslide, snowfall and inclement weather.
It is a widely acknowledged fact that during such emergencies, the army personnel are known to provide food, shelter and even transportation to ensure the safety of the travellers along the Nathula route, the release mentions.
The Governor further lauded the role played by the Black Cat Division in organising various community based activities such as cleanliness drives, medical camps and awareness programmes involving students and civilian populations. Appreciating the facility of computerized railway reservation started by the Black Cat Division for use of both security personnel and civil population, the Governor acknowledged the harmonious rapport built over the years by the Black Cat Division with the people of Sikkim, the release adds.
