NRHM advocacy meeting on Leprosy held in Namchi

Namchi, 19 June [IPR]: An advocacy meeting under the National Rural Health Mission on Leprosy for frontline workers of South district was held at the District Hospital here today. CMO [South], Dr. Bimal Rai, chaired the meeting which was also attended by DRCHO Dr. Junita Yonzon; Senior Non-Medical Leprosy Officer (SNMLO) BK Rai; Deputy Director (IEC/BCC) South CR Pradhan alongside ASHA, Anganwadi workers.and Village Health Sanitation & Nutrition Committee (VHSNC) members.
The CMO initiated the meeting by laying down imperatives about the objectives of the National Leprosy Eradication program (NLEP). He appraised the gathering about the history of leprosy and how it is encircled as a stigma by the society. Tracing back instances of how lepers were looked down upon and treated as outcasts, he urged the people to work together in making South a leprosy free district.
The SNML Officer briefed the gathering about the bacterial disease, Leprosy and its different forms thereby also discussing the symptoms and cure available for the chronic infection. He also, notified the gathering about the current figure of Leprosy (Local & Non-Local) infected patients in the state.
Later, the DRCHO informed the frontline workers about the various health care programs that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has put into effect like child death review, measles surveillance program and child growth chart monitor.
The meeting also saw an interactive session between the resource persons and the Front Line workers.
