SCPCR urges authorities to fast track sodomy case

GANGTOK, 19 Jun: Chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights [SCPCR], Manita Pradhan, and member, Yangchen Ladingpa, on Wednesday visited the school where five hostel students had accused a teacher of sodomy.
As per a press release, the Chairperson met the school principal who informed that the five students are traumatised and have been sent home. They will be appearing for their examinations after the necessary medical and legal procedures are completed, it was informed.
The Chairperson has been told by the police personnel in-charge that the children will be appearing in court for their statement as per Section 164 of CrPC. Considering the serious nature of the incident and its effects on the victims the Chairperson has urged the police personnel that all necessary care be taken while examining the children, the release informs.
Further, the Commission has urged the respective law enforcing and justice imparting authorities to take the case up in the fast track court so that the children can attend school at the earliest.
Finally the Commission has urged all the stakeholders of educational institutions to be more alert to avoid such crimes in future and have more awareness programmes and interaction between school authorities, parents and children periodically, the release further adds.
