Sichey Secondary School students engaged in solid waste management initiative

Gangtok, 26 June: With its objective to engage and encourage students of secondary schools to “reduce, reuse and recycle”, the Gangtok Municipal Corporation's initiative, Engage-14, reached out to 300+ students of Sichey Secondary School today with the “ENGAGE Discussion”, the second phase of the ENGAGE 14 initiative with a mix of panel discussions and poster-making competition.
Speaking on the program, Mala Jigdal Dorjee, Principal, Sichey Secondary School, said, “The Engage Discussion program on Solid Waste Management by the GMC was very informative and fruitful. All the students and staff participated with great enthusiasm. By this program, we are motivated to take more innovative steps in the future in the direction of Solid Waste Management.”
ENGAGE 14 is a first of its kind intervention by any municipality across India where all schools in the municipal area are involved for a program on Solid Waste Management. The Engage-14 initiative is divided into three aspects - Engage Quiz for Junior High Schools, Engage Discussion for Secondary Schools and Engage Race for senior secondary schools. The Engage-14 initiative is a seven month intervention between March to September 2014 and is being conducted by 24hours Inspired.
