Training on Organic Certification processes held for field functionaries

GANGTOK, 05 June: A daylong training on Organic Certification and its attendant processes was held for field functionaries of International Panaacea Ltd here on Wednesday. The training was held in association with the Sikkim Organic Mission of the Agriculture Department.
An IPL press release informs that Namgyal Bhutia, Joint Director, Training & Inputs, updated the trainees on the need for wider awareness among the farmers about organic farming and the conditions stipulated for the certification process.
The training also focused on large cardamom cultivation with Dr. AK Vijayan, Deputy Director, ICRI, RRI, Spices Board, Tadong, emphasizing the role of bumble-bees in the pollination of this cash crop. He also spoke on the different varieties of cardamom grown in Sikkim and the suitability of each to different terrains. He also spoke on ways and means to control the spread of the diseases which have been striking cardamom plantation in Sikkim.

MK Pradhan, Joint Director, SOM, in turn, briefed the field functionaries on ICS related documentation processes, data collection, trace-net entry and Internal and External Inspections, Generation of Scope Certificate, Crop production etc.
