ADC-West inspects monsoon preparedness at hydel project sites

Gyalshing, 07 July [IPR]: An official team comprising of DPO Zigmee Bhutia, DFO (T) Tshering Pintso Bhutia, and DIO Simon Subba headed by ADC-West Bhim Thatal visited the various hydel project sites in West Sikkim on 05 July to check on the preparedness mechanism at the projects and security arrangements for the monsoon.
At NHPC Legship, the ADC visited the dam site and had a brief meeting with the officials who explained the safety measures and early warning system for the release of water from the dam and preparedness plans in the event of a calamity. They further informed that the project is conducting awareness programmes for the people from time to time by involving the local NGOs.
The ADC directed the officials to submit the details of employees engaged in the project and urged them to give priority to the locals. Mock drill on early warning system was also carried out during the visit.
At Coastal Private Limited, Lingchom, the ADC directed the officer concerned to fence the open surge shaft which was filled with water.
He then visited Tikjek Bhir, under Forest Department (Khasmal), where an illegal quarry was in operation by the locals.
The team then visited Shiga Pvt. Ltd, Sakyong, Jal Pvt. Ltd. At Reshi and also made a surprise inspection at Reshi Haat Bazaar.
During his visit at Reshi haat bazaar, he found certain shops and hotels running business and selling items beyond those prescribed in their trade licenses. He has directed the Excise Department to inspect such places and file a report within a week. Some hawkers were yet to renew their trade licenses. To this, the ADC has requested the Panchayat Secretary to carry out renewal activity at the earliest and also to give a token of receipt when their license is taken for renewal.
He further directed the concerned police to take strict action against the persons who are found dumping garbage in the Reshi khola. He further directed the police to take into account the hawkers who have been setting up business on the roadside and ensure in consultation with the authorities concerned to allot proper sites.
The ADC also visited the landslide at Tato Pani Bhir and interacted with the Roads & Bridge Department personnel on site. It was found that two earth-moving machines have been kept on standby on either side of the slide for emergencies. The concerned authorities have been directed to keep the road open.
