SKM MLAs on dharna demanding action against SP and DC

GANGTOK, 16 July: The MLAs of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha [SKM] who had gone to meet the Chief Secretary regarding the situation which has erupted out of the college situation, sat on a dharna in front of the new Secretariat situated at Mannan Kendra today after the meeting failed to reach a conclusion.
They are demanding that action be taken and suspension orders be passed against the two officers - the District Collector [East], AK Singh and Superintendent of Police [East], Manoj Tiwari by the state administration for ordering the lathicharge against students on 14 July at Tadong.
“We had come to meet the Chief Secretary regarding the action taken by the district administration against the two officers for the incident that took place on 14 July at the Sikkim Government College where the college students were lathi-charged by the police, but since there was no conclusion reached regarding the issue, we have decided to stage a dharna in front of the Secretariat to show our solidarity towards the students", the SKM MLAs stated, while speaking to NOW! today.
