Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal Memorial Cup kicks off in Gangtok

GANGTOK, 06 Aug: Ten teams are participating in the Independence Day Football Tournament for the Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal Memorial Cup 2014, which kicked off this afternoon here at Paljor Stadium. This knock-out tournament is part of the state-level Independence Day Celebration and is being organized by Sikkim Football Association on behalf of the Home Department, Government of Sikkim.
The inaugural match was played between Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club [SHSC] and Share Football Club [SFC], Kalimpong. The match ended in a 1-1 draw at full time. In the extra-time of the match, Share FC  edged past SHSC with 3 goals to 1. With this Share FC has now advanced to the next round of the tournament.
Apart from SFC, Kalimpong and Kanchenjunga FC Siliguri, the other eight teams are from Sikkim which includes SHSC, Dzongri SC, Sikkim Boys, Siniolchu Sikkim FC, Namchi, Boys Club FC, United Sikkim Football Club, State Sports Academy and Sikkim Police.
On Thursday, the second match will be played between Dzongri Sporting Club and Sikkim Boys at 2 PM.
The inaugural match was witnessed by SFA president, BK Roka, general secretary, Menla Ethenpa and other executive members and officials of SFA. The first day of the match saw a good number of spectators cheering for both the teams.
