Gangtok gets a new Mayor

LASSEY DOMA BHUTIA SWORN IN
GANGTOK, 25 Aug [IPR]: The Gangtok Municipal Corporation has a new Mayor now. Councilor of Syari Municipal Ward, Lassey Doma Bhutia was elected to the post of Chief Commissioner or Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation in the election held today at the East District Collectorate. Lassey Doma Bhutia was the lone contender for the post of Mayor GMC.
Ms Bhutia was administered the oath of office by the District Collector East, Chewang Gyatso Bhutia, in the presence of Deputy Mayor GMC, Shakti Singh Choudhary, Commissioner GMC, CP Dhakal, Special Secretary UD&HD, LB Chettri who was present as the Election Observer, Deputy Municipal Commissioner GMC, HK Chettri and Councilors of various Municipal Wards under GMC.
Earlier, the election of Lassey Doma Bhutia was proposed on behalf of all the councilors by Councillor Ranipool Ward, Damber Dahal and seconded by Councilor Development Area YB Thapa. The proposal was unanimously supported by the councillors.
The District Collector then made a formal declaration of the election of Lassey Doma Bhutia as the Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation.
It may be mentioned here that the Office of the Mayor of GMC had been lying vacant since March 2014 when the then incumbent quit the ruling party and joined SKM ahead of the elections and lost his seat and post to anti-defection rules of the GMC.
