JACKFRUIT SEASON: Jackfruit, locally known as “Rookh-Kattar” was the star attraction at Singtam Haat this Friday with almost every second vegetable stall selling the vegetable. “This is the season for ‘Rookh Kattar’, Kakra (cucumber), karela (bitter gourd) and ‘baas ko toosa’ [bamboo shoots] and we are happy that the vegetables that we bring straight from our village at Melli Dara are selling well. We grow these in our fields and the vegetables are all organic,” shares Birkha Tamang, a hawker who comes to the haat every Friday.
