MLA Challenge Cup enters second round in Melli

MELLI DARA, 06 Aug: The ninth day of the MLA Challenge Cup, Melli was attended by Chairman, STDC, RN Rai as the chief guest on Tuesday. The Minister cum area MLA, Tulshi Devi Rai was also present on the occasion. The organizing committee of the 68th Independence Day Celebration felicitated RN Rai for being appointed as the Chairman of STDC and also for his tremendous contributions to the society. Minister Tulshi D. Rai handed over the felicitation letter to Mr Rai.
Mr Rai, in his address, expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee for the felicitation and assured that he will work relentlessly and diligently to live up to the expectations and promised that he will prove that the faith reposed in him by the Chief Minister of Sikkim will not go in vain.
He further stressed that the present government under Pawan Chamling has been student friendly and some anti-social elements are trying to mislead students and encouraging young minds towards violence and anti-social activities. He urged the students to see through this deep conspiracy and implored them to stay vigilant.
Four matches had been scheduled for the day. In the men's category, Turuk FC defeated Melli Police in the first match by 2 goals to 1. In the second match of the same category, Rabitar FC defeated Melli Gumpa Sec. School - B team by 4 goals to nil.
In the women's  match, Turuk Girls' Football Club defeated Melli Dara by 6 goals to 2. In the under-14 boys' category, Kitam Sr. Sec. School beat Melli Gumpa Sec. School by 2 goals.
The 5th MLA Challenge Cup, Melli Constituency started on 27 July and has entered into the second round of the tournament.
