Rains swamp road connectivity in South Sikkim

GANGTOK, 25 Aug [IPR]: Incessant rain for more than a week has affected many roads in the South district. As per the road condition report under South District as on 25 August, Yangang to Ravangla road is blocked at Dojak since July and restoration work will be initiated only after monsoon as the area is very fragile and the slide is quite huge.
Lingmoo to Yangang road is blocked at Mangzing since 23 August while  Yangang to Pabong road was blocked today at Fatak near Sibsu but has been restored. Phongla to Bermiok road is blocked at Bedhghari and is expected to open by 26 August.
Singtam to Bermiok road is blocked at Namphing due to washed out road formation on 24 August. Restoration work has been initiated and the road is expected to be restored within a week.
Frequent blockage on the Namchi Phongla road has been reported since a week though the Roads Department is continuously engaged in restoration work. The road extension work in the area has aggravated the landslide causing frequent blockage.
In addition, there are several reports of partial and severe house damages in the district. Concerned Revenue Surveyor and GVAs have already been directed to assess the damage for release of ex-gratia relief.  Directives have also been issued to all Revenue Surveyors and Asstt. Revenue Surveyors, not to leave their duty station during this monsoon period.
District Administration, South is also updating Food Stock position in the District on the official website of DAC Namchi (Facebook) on a daily basis along with road condition report for public convenience.
