Sikkim Manipal Swasthya Suraksha Scheme covers 10,000 so far REBYNA RANA

GANGTOK, 19 Aug: The Sikkim Manipal Swasthya Suraksha Scheme has managed to cover 10,000 people in the state since it was launched slightly over six months ago.
The health insurance scheme started in February this year and being an annual scheme, those enrolled are covered till 15 February 2015. This scheme has revealed that there are quite a number of people in the state requiring major surgeries including brain surgery.
In fact, as informed by Sitting Medical Superintendent, CRH, Dr. Sajiba Dutta, the hospital receives up to five patients requiring brain surgery on average each month.
However, it is informed that patients with all kinds of diseases have been visiting the hospital under this scheme.
Since the scheme is a tie up with an insurance company the hospital is required to observe certain conditions and so alcoholism, drug addiction and the like cannot be treated under this scheme.
The maximum limit covered under the scheme is Rs. 1.50 lakh. Expenses beyond this limit are to be borne by the individual. Interestingly, it is informed that all the cases of brain surgery treated by the hospital were done free of cost.
The highest number of subscribers to this health initiative of Sikkim Manipal comes from the East District followed by South, West and North districts respectively.
Marketing Manager, CRH, Bunty Agarwal, accompanied by Executive Marketing, Arpan Chhetri, have been supervising this scheme since its initiation. They inform that they intend to cover all the four districts through awareness campaigns and have also been engaging in village sensitization programmes. They now expect to enroll more numbers into the MSS Scheme on the field itself.  They have also expressed their gratitude to the concerned people for having enrolled themselves to the scheme.
The amount to be paid for subscribing to the scheme is Rs. 500 for an individual and Rs. 800 for a family.
