Tibetan Youth Congress working committee meeting gets underway in Gangtok

GANGTOK, 11 Aug: The 45th Working Committee Meeting of Tibetan Youth Congress [TYC] started today here at Choe-Kha-Sum hall, Nam Nang.  More than 100 participants from all over India and abroad are attending the meeting, which will conclude on 16 August.
TYC is the largest Tibetan NGO in exile and has more than 35,000 members and 88 chapters worldwide.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister RB Subba conveyed his best wishes to the participants and encouraged them to work towards becoming socially responsible youth. He further wished them success in their cause.
Mr. Subba shared that the people of Sikkim share a good relationship with Tibetans in the state and would continue to do so. He also appreciated the role and works of the TYC.
He mentioned that the Government of Sikkim has also been working for the welfare of its youth. The Sikkim Youth Development Board has recently been formed which will soon be followed by the framing of the Sikkim Youth Policy, he informed.
Gyalo Thondup, the elder brother of the Dalai Lama, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Sikkim and the people of the state for permitting the TYC to hold the meeting in the state.
Earlier, TYC president, Tenzing Jigme mentioned that the TYC turns 45 years old this year. Since its formation in the year 1970, TYC has been working for the welfare of the Tibetan community, he said. He further added that it has also being working for the preservation of Tibetan culture and traditions and has produced large number of leaders who are presently working in the government and different organizations.
Mr Jigme informed that this 6-day long meeting will discuss and deliberate on different agendas and issues and would also come up with new programmes and strategies. The meeting would also discuss further strengthening of the organization, he added.
The inaugural ceremony of the meeting concluded with the presentation of the vote of thanks by TYC vice-president, Tamding Sichoe.
