Green, Clean and Organic Sikkim theme for Maghe Mela at Jorethang

GANGTOK, 06 Jan [IPR]: Maghe Mela committee 2015 has decided to showcase the organic potential of Sikkim at the Jorethang Maghe Mela celebrations scheduled to begin on 14 January. Zero waste management and traditional flavor will be aligned to attract visitors to the Organic Sikkim theme of Maghe Mela 2015. In this regard a coordination meeting of the committee with the stakeholders was held at the conference hall of Soochna Bhawan under the chairmanship of Minister for Rural Management and Development Department SB Subedi today.
The meeting was also actively participated in by Deputy Speaker Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, Minister for Urban Development and Housing Department NK Subba, Minister for Health and Information & Public Relations AK Ghatani, who is also the chief patron of the organizing committee, Chief Whip Bikram Pradhan, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) PD Rai, Parliamentary Secretary Sonam Dadul Bhutia, Chairman STCS Rastaman Rai, Chairman STDC Rup Narayan Rai, senior officials from various departments and others.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Subedi stressed on availability of organic food in all hotels and restaurants of Jorethang and further declared to hold a meeting with the concerned sector on 08 Jan at Jorethang. He also emphasized on the need of organic vegetables for the occasion and to meet the demand in proper coordination with Agriculture and Horticulture departments. Embracing suggestions made by MP Mr. P.D. Rai, the Minister spoke on proper waste management to promote Swachh Abhiyan. Earlier, the Member of Parliament had outlined the need of connectivity between Green, Organic and Clean Sikkim to deliver a clear message in global scenario. He also suggested to conduct an awareness programme on drug abuse.
Minister and the chief patron of the committee presented overview of the Maghe Mela wherein he urged for intersectoral coordination and cooperation for the success of this event. He also highlighted on various aspects of the festival like cultural programme, Rural Tourism, Rural Sports, Saras Mela, Painting of Gallery, Sanitation, water and power connectivity to each stalls etc. He also suggested milk union to exhibit milk product in traditional forms.
Mr. Ghatani informed about the outcome of the previous three meetings conducted in connection with Magha Mela 2015.
Deputy Speaker Mr. Lepcha urged stakeholders to impart active contribution at various levels. Minister N.K. Subba said, despite constraints due to ongoing construction works, department is fully committed to shoulder the given roles and responsibilities .Chief Whip Mr. Pradhan also shared his experiences and suggested to gear up the directed activities to get prepared for mela in short time left behind.
STCS Chairman Mr. Rastaman Rai articulated the gathering on the need of multisectoral contribution while STDC Chairman Mr. Rup Narayan Rai informed about the programme of arrival of foreign delegates and their presence at Jorethang Maghe Mela. MD Nayuma TV Mr. Roshan Rai committed to key role in publicity and promotion of Maghe Mela 2015.
