GANGTOK, 06 Jan: The Sashastra Seema Bal [SSB] late last evening deployed nine more jawans to the already existing team of six SSB personnel undertaking the search operation for the student from Kolkata who went missing on 27 December from the Bakhim Forest area while on the Yuksam-Goechala trek in West Sikkim. The deployment came after the office in-charge of the search & rescue operations, Assistant Commanding Officer 36th Battalion of the SSB, Manoj Kumar Singh started officiating with the search operations starting yesterday.
As per the APO, KK Karna, the SSB, DIG initiated the deployment of the ACO as soon as the West district police requested SSB’s intervention into the search operations.
“The nine personnel deployed are specialists in search and rescue operations and have all the necessary training and equipment to carry out an effective combing mission. The men are still in the jungles of West Sikkim and negotiating the harsh terrain in the cold and rain is a major setback in the operations. But even then we will give it one final push,” states the APO.
