Amar Subba – The Ruggedest of them all

Marathoner Amar Subba has added another feather to his overflowing cap with a win at the Ruggedian Obstacle Race 2015 held at Kolhapur in Maharashtra on 22 February. He secured the first place in the Open Men 45-plus category on his debut in the obstacle race.
The 46-year-old completed the 15 km race overcoming 15 types of obstacles in 54 minutes 59 seconds. He was awarded with a trophy, medal and certificate. Ruggedian is India’s biggest and toughest obstacle race as per the organisers - Kolhapur Adventure Sports Association [KASA].
Around 400 participants from different parts of the country and abroad participated in the Ruggedian race. Speaking to NOW!, Mr Subba shared that the race was a tough one but interesting nonetheless. “I was determined to give my best and finish the race in the first place,” he said.
The race started at 8 AM in the morning with the participants running through streams, farmlands, uphill climbs and forest areas. Despite the hot weather, Mr Subba completed the race in just under an hour.
"It was an emotional and proud moment for me when organisers announced Sikkim's name alongwith my name during the prize giving ceremony. It was an honour for me”, shared Mr Subba.
He dedicated this achievement to the youngsters of the state to encourage them to live a healthy life and to contribute towards the state. “I always want to do something for the state, that’s why I keep taking on new challenges to do my state proud”, he said.
Popularly known as the Marathon Man of Sikkim, Mr Subba hails from Darap in West Sikkim. He is a successful marathon runner and a mountaineer as well and has already recorded his name even in the Limca Book of Records for successfully completing a Solo 440 km Marathon along the foothills of the Himalayas in seven days in 2012.
